Project – “Theatrical project ‘3.14 TUT’ Male ballet”
This project was planned and released as a searching of images which appear and disturb men of transitional age. The project of re-comprehension.
The project is based on a theatrical action, but the narration is held with the help of plastics and actions moved into choreographic structure. A few words, direct communication with the audience, answers to questions. In one moment the spectator observes the performance, in the other moment – the spectator’s pure provocation to the reactions which they didn’t expect from themselves. The action of the play was held in different places, because it required certain scenic room. The music was played with the help of two computer speakers and a player. Why this equipment? The thing is that the remarks from the audience had never been ignored, and if someone didn’t get something it was explained immediately, moreover the participants could pause the play, and having discussed everything, continue the play.
The plays were basically built as multi version ones, that had a variety of author’s positions and points of view. For somebody it had one meaning and for the other one – absolutely different one.
For this very reason there had been made a special style – FALLEN ART. It’s based on the idea of a mixture of different kinds of scenic art, witch unexpectedly affect the spectators. Form one side this is a dance, plastic action, from another one it’s a performance, from another one it’s a theatrical play, from the other side it’s an installation which the spectator enters at first, and then leaving the space, changes the play by his actions. One of the most distinctive features of the FALLEN ART is the simplicity of all components. The themes, images, taken from life are cultivated and open from an unexpected point of view.
FALLEN ART – it’s a camouflaged art, where the spectator takes part in the very performance and at the end of it, he also judges the play and the actors’ play. An honest play with honest conditions.
There were two images. The angels who had a business trip on earth. One is in charge of the actions (Cunning), the other one was in charge of the text (Mom). These images were completely not related to religion or other points of view. The thing is that it had to be looked at from an abstract point of view so these images seemed to be the most appropriate ones.

At the very beginning there was a gathering of information, actual and emotional: the actors went on tour. They were working in strange space, getting acquainted with people. Then they came back to Harkov and in this grey city made a text about bright and exotic ways of life. Basing on this trip the play in being narrated, a simple story about “the main”- about love and anguish, loneliness and sudden passion, unjust earth dispensation and humor of the political demagogy, about fear and aggressiveness, tenderness and forgiveness.
This play is being also carried as a hand cart with the most important things: careful and shocked attitude to the world. During the whole play there used recognizable, funny, queer situations directed on opening human’s subconscious with the help of plastics, which is greatly close to the natural one.
The play overwhelms not with the dance plastics, but just with simple and certain feeling that happiness exists, unlike it used to seem.
This is like a plastic equivalent of the world. The play is weaved with funny reprises, amazing plastic jokes and immediate wish making. This is also an attempt to erase different boundaries: between people, cultures, countries, genres and types of art. Self irony is included in the genetic code of the skills. During the play all the actors are working without any insurance! And this is not a limit of the complicated theatric expressiveness. Whatever happens in life, the happiness is always bigger.
The meaning based on associations and ambiguous jokes with a bitter taste – that’s the main topic of the play, sad and funny at the same time. Its heroes are doomed to a complex of a provincial according to cultural Europe. The difference is that they’re ready to confess. We want its lonely heroes, we want ourselves. And there’s no sweeter feeling.
One may say the play it too movie theatric. But it’s even more literary. Masterly made plot can be easily imagined as a romance. In this case it personifies the new theatric ideology which main idea is to tell stories. But the theater seems for us not to be based on the story or the narration, but on the esthetic distance to them. In this distance, in its secret and poetry, the magic of the theater is the main point.
It’s a lot more important to think about the reason to our theatrical composition, “context” of worrying, “circumstances” that cause the being of a text of an author or just human’s inclinations. The perfection of illusion intensifies reality.
Adoring scenic transformations one’s thinking of mistakes in life, including his own ones. The dances are weaved in the play invisibly. The dance is a part of life, but not the whole life. It’s all to be mixed evenly- and is served under the sauce of an intellectual game. Not only in the movement- when the actors cross out difficult broken lines as if inside of an invisible circumference, Leonardo’s golden section.
Not only in the ability to make up a smart reprise out of a perfect nonsense. Not only in the ability to hold on a thin edge between lyricism and sentimentality. Here the actors are running a lot, talk and sometimes dance a little bit.
Men in costumes are showing how animal instincts tear through fragile dampers of culture.
One can notice the thinnest aspects of people’s relationships which are researched in the play. There’s no drama here, neither pathos, neither inventive arrangement, nor newness of the approaches. Here’s a relaxed ironic view to the life. The main thing is how the play is shown. Free agency is included to the price.

The project had a lot of tasks. The social and artistic aims were based on a clear civil position of the participants. The point of the position is in searching for national aims and tasks. What unites us here in Ukraine? What aims should be set for the nation in order to not get lost in the world? Where’s Ukraine moving and what does it want to gain as a nation? And how are we Ukrainians going to differ from other nations? The search for identification of particularity as an ethnos.
The nucleus of the project. Ukrainian system of symbols. Working at the market of symbols – it’s not work with goods and services, but with social and psychological motives, desires, values and superstitions of people in the situations when consumption of material things reflects immaterial social needs. Re-comprehending the symbols which reflect the world view of our people to compare it with modern Ukrainian community and to offer a designed aim, task and idea.
The aim of the artistic of the project – is an opportunity to construct demand.
It’s important to talk about constructing supply, and then to work with the demand.

The theater is a fighter who takes part in political life or revealing fight of a certain group of people. There are 2 angels in the play who have a business trip on earth. One is responsible for the action (Cunning Angel), the other is responsible for the text (Angel Mom). They observe the situations from their angelic point of view. This play was made as a protest against the total manipulation of Ukrainians during the election process. There’s one more principal in the play – a doll is playing the role of an electorate, who’s always deceived by the politicians. The play is interactive and greatly close to the spectator. It explains the civil position of the actors in a form of jokes.

A child is born in a young family, and everything would be fine but one mistake – a fifty year old man get into the baby’s body. The chain of the situations connected with the mistake turns into an absurd. This is a play where the roles are played by dolls, objects, home appliances, light and one actor. From one side the spectator observes a classic play of things. Form the other side with the help of plastic decision the play turns the actor into a woman or into a man. The cascade of the images from the baby to the woman brings the spectator in the state of worrying. It opens up the inner world of themselves.
The space is taking part in the play. The spectator is between 4 squares that clearly show male and female sides of one man.

The main hero in the play is a telephone. Two psychologists are talking about funny stories about people who call them on the confidential telephone. A confidential telephone is usually associated with problems of the one who’s calling, but this play is a comedy. In the light form of performance there’s an educating nucleus. Because the conversation is about AIDS problems. About how one can catch and avoid the disease. It’s a educating prospect high school students in a theatrical form.

Two plays that are using the same choreographic nucleus and the same accompaniment, but they’re extremely different.
“Happy Birthday” – is very close to ‘punk’ style. In its principle it’s aggressive, conflictive, and sometimes even rude. The main heroes are two men who turn out to be in the same coupe on the train. They both have business trips. Being bored they start sharing stories of their lives. And now one of them takes his huge suitcase and takes out of there a doll of human size and this is a beginning of the romantic story, the other man has his own doll and his own story, and he starts telling a story about jealousy , a cruel romance. They recall their friends’ weddings, love stories. The stories of men who are at the very peak of crisis of middle age. When illusions of youth are gone you’re alone with your questions. This is the time of self reassessment, everything that has been around you.
“Men Are…”- it’s an opposite play. It’s very light and ironic. One can see a video that explains the action, remarks, some time one can take part in a dialogue, some time you can argue with the action and actors. Two personages are making fun of themselves, they’re full of life and energy, they’re telling about how they understand life. The conversation about their first loves, to women about men. They invite the spectators to take part in contests.
In both play there are shown two extremely different points of view about same stories. But they’re separated with 5 months of heroes’ real lives. In the end there became two absolutely different plays.

Ethno modernism. / Starting from December 1998 the nucleus of the style is Ukrainian system of symbols that reflects our nation’s world view. Using the artistic principle - the union of national components of a word, gesture, movement, drawing and song in one, in the plays and dances there are used methods of affection on consumer’s impressions, uniting folklore music with the explanations of modern images and movements./

…during the work on the play the mixing of dance styles with theatrical directions caused appearing ethno modernism. What does it mean?
Firstly: re-comprehension of national traditions from the point of modernism. Secondly: the symbolic of many generations has been transformed together with time. The difference is that it’s not that important any more. Nowadays Ukrainian folklore form different regions of Ukraine (Donetsk, Lvov, Chernigov, Odessa) sounds unusual and ambiguous.
The events in the play go one by one. Children are growing up, guys are getting acquainted with girls, families are being built. Young men become men and leave for making money. The girls become women and stay home, become mothers. It all accompanies with funny situations: argues and scandals, offences and forgiveness.

An interesting point of view by a ballet master director to homosexual men and young men. The relationships are based on a suitcase of letters. Here one can find a pantomime and staging with acrobatic elements. The conflict of the relationships in the male duet is shown through the contrast of movements and gestures.
Erotic scenes are expressed in plastics openly, but they’re full of light sadness because nothing lasts forever. Harsh and abrupt movements remind of two fighters, where the winner gets the right to leave, and the loser becomes a winner. It’s a very interesting transition where all the clothes are almost taken off.
In the end the winner leaves the scene proudly. The loser takes a gun, and after a few seconds he pushes on the cock and falls on the floor.

This work is remarkable because it’s made on the motives of ancient Ukrainian ordinances and traditions, which are unknown to a lot of historians and ethno graphs. The plot is simple and original as life itself. Relationships between a man and a woman. A fighting of two beginnings, a fighting of oppositions for unity and continuing.
The expressiveness of the elements of the folklore dance is united with plastic etudes of the performers.
This can be also compared with lightning effect that blinds for a moment and imprints in mind images made by the author and the performers. There are 3 states of love in the play.

In this work the relationships between a man and a woman has been researched. The woman is pregnant, the man is pondering. The dance is made by the principal of a cascade.

..the edge of theatrical space has been erased, but only from one side. And the fourth mythical side between the spectator and the scene hasn’t been erased yet, but it has been transformed into a metaphorical mirror, which visually enlarges and deepens the space of spectators’ comprehension.
The synchronization of the statistic and dynamic video of depiction with live scenic action makes an effect of compaction on one unit of time.
Social direction of the play and actuality of AIDS puts very bright emphasis in the relationships, events and marks of the heroes.
Stylistically the play is made as the European dance theater. There are two actors between the screen and the spectators. During the whole play they take part in a dialogue which sometimes turns to a scandal and right after this turns to romantic relationships.

In the center of the scene there’s a loop hanging and here comes the performer in black. His depressive plastics is emphasized by the accompaniment. The composition is full of expressiveness of a desperate person ready to commit a suicide.
In his expressive hands one can see knifes. An impressive comparison of knifes with a bow and hands with violins.
The whole composition is based on metaphors and allegories, parallels of each person’s worrying. It smells like Middle Age savageness , there are a judge, an executioner and a victim in one face. Torn clothes on the back turn into a black mask on the victim’s head. This is a philosophical view to the problem of loneliness. The way out seems to be found…but the loop tightens and the body is staying still.

Deceiving beginning. Melodramatic and naпve like pretty much everything in our life. The romanticism of the relationships between a man and a woman are dissolving, when he’s alone one can observe his addiction to drugs.
He promises his beloved who is trying to save him form breaking and addiction, but he can’t keep his promises. On these bases he like Othello kills her and dies overdosed.

A company of funny and cheerful young men are hanging out. As a personification of worrying of soul there are used rag hearts. Like it always happens, firstly they start making fun of feelings. But…
One leaves first. Everybody’s watching him leaving with perplexity. Then the company separates into pairs and then there appear quarrels and offences. A girl is leaving one of them and starts dating another one.
In the end, having quarreled with each other, they stop communicating with each other. And there’s no more funny and cheerful company…

This play is about love triangle, in which a woman is playing a male role, and men are wearing skirts playing the female parts. Here we can see a deep meaning and a form of relationships expressed in a dance, where we can see jealousy and treachery. The participants in the skirts together with their sexuality and passion are ready for everything: unfair game or even murder. It looks like a Mexican soap opera, but there’s one difference – all the evens are occurring during 4 minutes.
In the end the schemer and the murderer dies because of the object of his passion.
